Day 147

Since music posts are all I can seem to manage these days, let's just go with that.

Yesterday in the hour I had before work, I posted "Love is a Battlefield" by Pat Benatar, because (1) amazing song and (2) I feel like it's my anthem to the conquerable troubles Zee and I are having to face right now.

Today I'm not going to be personal. Instead of looking inward, I will be looking outward.

I have become something shy of obsessed with the History Channel's show "Ancient Aliens." The premise of the show is to go over the literal MOUNTAIN of evidence that points to extraterrestrials visiting us in our ancient past. Everything from ancients possessing knowledge of stars too far for the human eye to see to their knowledge of the lay of the the Antarctica coastline miles beneath the ocean. From cave-paintings all over the world depicting beings wearing helmets to evidence that our ancestors somehow had possession of nuclear tools, flying crafts, and building knowledge that surpasses our own.

Mmm, like I said, getting close to obsessed...

So when Katy Perry's "Extraterrestial" came out, I jumped all over that.

A few things to say about this video:

1. I think Kanye is a talented and snobby, slimy pit of ultimate douchery.

2. I hate it when rappers remix a song, and what they rap has nothing to do with the message of the song.

3. This video is gorgeous. It's neither over- or under-done, in my opinion.

4. I want Katy Perry's hair-do in the last section of the video. Must find a way to wear my hair like that about once a week when my hair is long.

Day 211

A POST IN THREE PARTS

PART ONE

My days are lasting twice as long as normal.

I have a countdown to Zee running on my phone.

I wake up in the morning and check.

It says, "X Days Remaining."

Cool.

On my drive home from work at the end of the day, I think to myself,

"Hmmm... So, I have, like, Y days left, right?"

I get home. I check my phone.

It says, "X Days Remaining."

I reply,

"WTF!!! X???? YOU SAID X YESTERDAY!!!!
WHAT KIND OF MESSED UP TIME WARP AM I IN???"

PART TWO

I have been such a bad blogger friend.

I apologize.

On March 26 (ages ago, I know), I receive a style award from

I'm not sure what I did to deserve being called "Stylish" buuuuuut

I'll take it.

Now, the rules of this say that I have to list 10 - 15 blogs.

Seriously?

10 to 15?

That's ridiculous.

I don't know that many people in my every-day life who I'd call stylish.

And I work in a salon.

So I'll pass it on to THREE people.

And you're gonna LIKE it.

1. Heather @ Altogether Heather
We've been e-shopping together
in order to survive work this week.
This girl has amazing taste in shoes.
I miss sharing a wardrobe with her.

(I know a lot of repeats... but I have such love!)
Because she has my favorite blog theme
and awesome style!
Total.
Pinup.

3. "Aaron X" @ Vanity
Total Wildcard?
Maybe.
But I think she's awesome.
Not military affiliated that I know of.
Not that that matters.
Her posts are always so poignant and inspirational.
They make me want to be a better blogger.
And her posts make me think
that she has amazing style.
I imagine her as a cute little Asian.
And we all know how much I love Asians.

The next part of this award is listing seven facts.

Sigh. So much damn work.

Still. I was thinking this morning that I didn't do one of the last Friday Fill-ins (although I was sorely tempted) because one question stumped me.

The question wanted to know if I had any irrational fears.

And I couldn't think of any.

All my fears make total sense.

Drowning? Duh.
Spiders? Hell yeah.
Failure? Understandable.

Then this morning, while brushing my teeth, it hit me.

1. I have an irrational fear of having halitosis - bad breath. I'm not talking "oops, I ate garlic & onion. let me brush my teeth" bad breath. I'm talking about the chronic bad breath. The unavoidable mess made by disgusting buildup produced by whatever fucked up glands your tongue and throat have.

So every morning I scrub the tongue, gagging myself with my own toothbrush to scrape at my tongue. If that's not excessive and irrational, I don't know what is.

2. My library has about 350 books in it. That number makes me sad. It needs to be bigger.

3. Every time I watch Rocky Horror Picture Show, I'm convinced there's some higher meaning to it all that continues to elude me.

4. The lowest grade I've ever made for a class over-all is a B. (Four exactly. Only one [maybe two] was deserved.)

5. I use Fact 4 in Never Have I Ever, because I'm nearly guaranteed to get everyone around me.

6. My fear of spiders started when I was about seven or eight, and a spider as big as my leg crawled up onto my thigh. When I shook it off, I couldn't see where it had gone.
Color me freaked out.

7. I always kinda wanted to try out for cheerleading in high school, but I didn't want to shave my legs that often...

PART THREE

I want to again link up with Amber at Goodnight Moon
because the song below popped up on my shuffle tonight.

John Williams is a good composer, I suppose.
There's just this one problem...

Star Wars
Indiana Jones
Hook
Harry Potter

At least 11 movies (possibly 19 - I stopped listening) movies.

One. Song.

I promise you.

Listen to the movies.

You'll hear how unbelievably similar the themes are.

So, several years ago, my mother got me the soundtrack to Memoirs of a Geisha for Christmas
because I love Asians...
And I groaned when I saw that it was composed by John Williams.

Only to find

He got this one right.

Thank you, John, for composing a second song.

sorry for such a long post! thanks for sticking with me!!

Day 218

I'm going to link up with Goodnight Moon's Music Meme today, because this song has been on my mind - even if not on my mp3 player - the past few days.

If I had a Playlist for this Deployment, it would start with Sheila Chandra's "Ever So Lonely" and end with this song:

Carrie Rodriguez

"Got Your Name On It"

I've got you name on it -
This heart of mine.
I've got our name on it -
This soul of mine.
I've got your name on it -
This body of mine.

This body of mine -
Got your name on it.

I've been chopping wood.
I've been mining gold.
I've been looking good,
So I've been told.
I go out at night.
This body of mine...
This body of mine -
Got your name on it.

Another tree falls down.
I watch it hit the ground.
I'm so misunderstood.
I keep on chopping wood.

I've got your name on it -
This heart of mine.
I've got your name on it-
This soul of mine.
I've got your name on it -
This body of mine.

This body of mine -
Got your name on it.

I've got your name on it
This airplane ticket of mine.
I've got your name on it -
These running shoes of mine.
I've got your name on it -
This Grey Goose of mine.
I've got your name on it -
This gray b-movie of mine (?).
I've got your name on it -
This Chopin of mine.
I've got your name on it -
This body of mine.

This body of mine -
Got your name on it...

Day 249

Care Packaging Has Stripped Me Of All My Blogging Abilities.

But I Can Find The Strength To Say...

..9 MONTHS TO GO!
(approximately)

ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST!

Day 250

One:
250 Days left. Well, really, 249 once I go to sleep. Finally feels like maybe the days are moving. Maybe soon enough she'll be home. Yay!

Two:
As of Today, Kitties are no longer allowed in my room. This makes me sad, but it must be done. Zee is kinda allergic to deh kitteh, and, if I'm to be cat-hair free by the time her mid-leave comes, I'd better start now.

Bai-Bai, Kittehs. :(

Three:
I've heard this song before.
I've seen this artist mentioned before, by Beckie, I believe.
But I was blog-hopping briefly and came across the music video for the song on The Few, The Proud, The Wife.
The Video Gave Me Chills.
Well Done.
Well.
Done.

Day 316

Happy Seven Months to Me & Zee!

Sometimes I'm shocked at how we haven't been together that long. This is definitely one of those "I know I've found the one" situations. So these seven months have felt like an eternity, because my forever is with her.

I vividly remember when I heard about her deployment.

We'd only been together a little over two weeks, and I was already crazy about her. I wasn't sure yet if love was in the picture, but - oh! - I was loving every minute.

This particular weekend, some friends of hers had come into town for the CMA Country Music Festival, and it was a bit of a surprise. Zee got invited along, and I was brought into the circle. We had a fantastic time, even if Zee doesn't like concerts or country music. Haha. We still enthusiastically (and drunkenly) purchased cheap cowboy hats for $20 a piece and "yee-haw"ed our way to the stadium.

I'd heard the word "deployment" floating around that weekend. Like how you think you heard someone say your name, but when you turn around no one is there, so you think you must have imagined it. I knew Zee was in the Army, but somehow the possibility of deployment hadn't occurred to me.

Well, the weekend was over, and good-byes were being passed around at the hotel. But as Zee was saying her farewells, she was asked when she would be deploying.

I overheard her say, "November."

I remember my heart stopping. I felt a chill in the pit of my stomach.

I realized in that moment, I had to decide very quickly what Zee was to mean to me. The magnitude and the rushed manner of this choice slammed into me and took my breath away.

I knew that I had less than five months to figure out how much I felt for her, and I had only a few weeks to decide if I would need and/or want those months.

What would be the point otherwise?

But as all this whirled through my mind, standing there in the hotel lobby, I looked at her, hugging and waving goodbye, and I knew that I could wait for her.

I might not have known whether or not I loved her at that time, but I knew she was someone worth waiting for. She was beautiful, interesting, talented, strong, kind, and all I could ask for. So if only I could love her, I could wait.

I chose.

About six weeks later, on a moonlit night in the park, I whispered, "I love you" in her ear, without a doubt in my heart.

Day 331

47 Weeks Remaining

When I listen to songs, I don't just appreciate the lyrics. I'm not just enjoying the emotion it evokes. I'm not just cresting on the music's swells.

I am also creating music videos. I choreograph each shot. I develop a plot line. I see the vivid or muted colors. I recreate the emotions.

I really want to look about finding a way onto the sets of video shoots, just to get my feet wet.

But lately, I've really entertained the idea of taking popular songs and re-shooting them from the "gay" perspective.

For instance, tonight I was listening to Beyonce's "Sweet Dreams" and I could imagine this entire video, a dedication to Zee.

I wear Greek-style white nightie, tied up with yellow ribbons, on a white bed. Opposite is Zee, separated by the thin film of a dream, fuzzy and distorted. A fingertip and a world away. And the chase begins through the different dreams. She changes outfits as she changes locations. I eventually catch up and the dream starts to dissolve, and as the song starts to end we clasp hands.

And of course there are inserts of some dancing, modelesque poses, and close-ups. But essentially that would be the video.

See? The song was from a girl to a guy, but change "boy" to "girl" and BOOM. Gay. Not "gay" as in stupid. "Gay" as in sexy.

I've done the gender switch with many songs. My favorite videos I've mentally prepared are set to "With Love" by Hilary Duff (don't judge me), "Me and You" by Cassie, "Poker Face" by Lady Gaga, and "So Hard" by Rihanna.

Ok, well, the Rihanna isn't exactly a gender switch situation, although it could be. I just think I could have made a much better music video. Her video for "So Hard" was "So Blah."

Day 27: What's the best thing going for you right now?

Is this the part where I cheesily say "Zee"?

Ugh. I hate being predictable...

But having someone solidly in my corner who is sexy, smart, amazing, and madly in love with me does my future look a lot happier. ;)
